I posted something along these lines a week or so ago, but it was kind of a convoluted post. While searching for a cause of driving light fuse blowing, I looked under the fuse box and noticed some minor melted black plastic from bottom of relay block and discolored (high temps) wiring under the rear defrost relay. I haven't used the defrost this year (only driven in above freezing temps) so I'm kind of worried about testing/using it.
Ignorance: why is there a relay for a defrost? Does a relay protect against a short like a fuse? Could a bad relay cause this? Why didn't the fuse blow before the melting below the relay (or maybe the fuse DID blow and the PO replaced but didn't use the defrost again)? Any ideas or explanations welcome.
Ignorance is bliss?
