Have two Cylinder heads..Which to use? Long..Sorry. Posted by JLitten007 [Email] ![]() ![]() |
So Im just starting my first head gasket job on my 90 SPG.
Got the SPG with a dead Transmission few years ago. Tran Case was cracked but engine was good. Pulled it and Transplanted a Eng/Tranny from a 91T.
The bad tranny/engine has been sitting Covered behind the shop for 3 years or so.
Yesterday I decided to pull the head off the old Good/engine Bad/tranny As Id been warned about breaking the Chain guides when pulling head.
Didn't want to risk it on the engine in the car so thought it a good practice.
Anyway, got the head off without breaking anything.
So today I'm striping down the SPG engine and got as far as getting the Valve cover off it.
Here is my question.
The head I pulled yesterday from spare engine looked very very clean on the cams and upper oil area. also the head gasket was good on it.
The head still on the car looks very Coked up with sludge on the intake side on cams.
Ill try to post pictures tomorrow.
Would it be a wise move to use the cleaner head over the one on the engine?
Just a thought.
Thanks
Jim
