Most likely your Hall effect connector is loose. That will cause random, intermittent stumbling and can cause the engine to die at any time, at any speed. The idle hunting when cold, which can cause the engine to die, is most likely a bad air mass meter or maybe just a bad (dirty or loose) connection there. If it hunts when the engine is cold and hot (so whenever it's idling) then you have a vacuum leak. These symptoms could also be the result of a defective ground either in the charging system, so think battery cable, or the injection system, inspect the black wires grounded near the thermostat housing. Also take a good look at the wires connected to the coil. The small primary wires are sometimes damaged by contact with the hood mechanism and an intermittent connection there could cause the stumbling and dieing you are experiencing. Your symptoms are mostly consistent with bad electrical connections, even possibly the air mass meter problem. Pull the connector there and clean and re-attach it, maybe you'll get lucky. Do the same at the ignition amplifier. If it's been years then it's probably due for plugs, cap and rotor and maybe new Bougicords. Good thing that the oil gets changed every 3000 miles though because dirty oil is death to these engines and their turbochargers. Any good Saab tech. can fix this kind of stuff in his sleep and get your car running right again. Good luck, let us know it develops.
