another arcing issue jeez loueez Posted by vvack0matic [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Car wont start. Arcing and Ignition issues?, Caleb, Wed, 18 Jan 2012 09:50:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
there is a rubber cap that fits over the ignition coil to shield the wires from arcing, if you have the rubber cap installed on the ignition coil and the wires them self leading to the coil are the problem, perhaps the wire sheath is bad, rap electrical tap around them. if the coil does not have the rubber cap then this is a issue.... let me think a sec... ok what can be done to stop the arcing even though you don't have access to the rubber cap. Run in the house and grab a rubber glove, one you would use to clean dishes or put on before making a sub-way sandwich. (not a latex glove) rubber and then find a rubber band, and a scissors. run back down to the car and with the scissors snip the tip off the index finger ((of the glove not your hand)) very important, then take the main coil wire (the one that runs to the distributor and slip it through the index finger of the rubber glove then attach the wire to the coil and to the distributor, with the electrical tape wrap the index finger to the wire then pull the glove over the end of the coil and wrap it with electrical tape, this will stop the arcing however this isn't the end of your problems.
when the motor lite came on did the battery lite come on also? if so the bushings in the alternator are wore down so much its creating a problem to keeping the battery charged, and this has been happening for a very long time, and now your battery had enough and now its a dead celled battery. getting a new battery will have the car run at top notch for a while however the alternator bushings need to be addressed, where would you find such a thing like alternator bushings,.. you don't they are no-longer supplied by Saab so the car has reached the end of its life, just just throw it away it was a automatic anyhow no harm no foul,.. you said yourself there's also that key problem,.. it was a good ride im sure fun while it lasted but it had to end sometime.
