Early front calipers: Fenco, Beck/Arnley, or Duralast? Posted by JerseySaab [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Taking advantage of the good weather I went to install new pads and rotors on my '86 900S (parts purchased during Eeuro's 10% off special). Needless to say the secondary piston on the first caliper I worked on is frozen solid.Won't turn, won't press in even in a vise. Have not gotten to the second caliper yet, but having dealt with this FUBAR front brake design for over 25 years I expect to find the same thing.
I want to get the calipers from a source that has a local store in case there's a problem, which is not unlikely with these. I see that Advance Auto Parts carries Fenco and Beck/Arnley rebuilds, complete with brackets, for $74.99 and $78.49 each, respectively. Fenco has the better warranty ("lifetime" vs. 1 year), but I know that doesn't necessarily mean they're better quality.
Autozone carries their Duralast house brand with lifetime warranty for $54.99 one side, $78.99 for the other side (!).
NAPA is over double the above prices, so unless they're gold-plated or something, I can't see going that route.
I'm leaning towards the Fenco, but have not used that brand before. Anyone have experience with them?
