Re: Went with Fenco... Posted by PaulS [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Went with Fenco..., JerseySaab ![]() |
I've had horrible luck with Fenco. I replaced BOTH calipers two times within 30 days including one which had a plugged bleed hole. Autozone cheerfully kept replacing them under warrantee until I cried uncle and made them refund all my money. Since the replacements are only as good (or bad)as the cores, hopefully you will have better luck than I did.
I recommend that you delay returning the cores in case you need them for parts or as cores elsewhere. (In my case, I had returned my original cores so I had nothing to turn in when I bought another set. (From the now defunct SaabStory)
Post a followup to let us know how you made out.
I suspect the right thing to do with old style calipers is to take the rebuilds apart before you ever install them on the car. Replace any suspect parts from your pile of cores and hope for the best. I've had good luck (so far) greasing them with caliper grease while they are apart. I admit it's scary trying to rebuild one of the old style calipers for the first time. But, I think I might be getting better at it than the guy (or girl) in the factory
