vvvvvvack,
I used to rebuild these assembly line fashion and it seemed that around 150,000 miles, same as the 5 speed manual units, was the typical point of full failure. Some peeps do get 200K out of them, probably by being real gentle and performing good, regular maintenance. These days we're often looking at cars that have unknown history and replaced speedometers so it can be hard to predict what you're getting in to. Like the 5 speed manual the T37 auto axle seals will leak when they wear out and the final drive then runs dry and BINGO...boat anchor. That syndrome alone has probably killed half of all the T37s ever made. The T37 runs in type F ATF only. No Dexron or other stuff and there is a drain plug. You'll drain maybe half of the fluid through it. The other half stays in the torque convertor, clutch drums and plumbing unless you do a dynamic flush while it's running. The ATF drain plug is a giant slot headed screw at the front left corner. There is also an engine oil drain plug just like in a 5 speed and a drain plug at the rear (on the bottom) for the final drive fluid (10w30). There is a plug in the right side of the final drive housing for refilling it. These do have a strainer/filter. You remove the front pan and it's right there, secured with small screws. make sure you get the rubber grommet installed correctly when installing the new filter.
