...in fact, I would never own another convertible unless I could keep it in a garage (no chance now as I'm currently very short on garage space).
In both instances, the flooding conditions were caused by clogged drain nipples in the doors and the space just behind the door (the rear window bay). The clogging was due to fine dirt that had accumulated in the door/body cavities. Water would roll off the convertible top, drain down the windows (and from wherever else), flow inside the door/body and then accumulate until it spilled out into the car interior because the nipples were clogged with fine mud.
Both cars were 93 turbos. I remember driving around listening to a sloshing sound and getting very nervous about the small amount of electric parts located beneath the rear seat.
I wish I had Justin's luck with mostly dry cars.
I had to clean the nipples with some bare, thin copper wire over the course of a rainy spring before the car interiors maintained dry status. It was a little frustrating.
I switched back to hatchbacks because I needed hauling capacity and I didn't want to damage either convertible with cargo use.
I suggest checking all of the nipples to verify that they drain any water that gets inside those cavities.
