The slot in the picture that looks like someone has used a screwdriver in it actually is a spring loaded sleve that keeps the two ends of the coupler joined together. The sleve is part of the end on the transmission. Holding the end of the cable that's on the end with the green o-ring wth one hand, slide the sleve back into the transmission and the coupling will seperate. You're almost there!
