Front swaybar on an '80 turbo

Hey guys, I'm about to finish installing front swaybars on the '80. Seems that when I crank the wheel all the way over on either side, there is a bolt on the tie rod end bracket that squashes the sway bar end bushing and limits full steer. Anyone run into this before? Is the problem the original really old c900 hub setup? I was considering moving to an '86 era hub setup which has a much smaller spindle and rotors are possible to get off without a press. Did the '86 era hubs have more room for the swaybar too?
Rear swaybar bolted up just fine. The really old-school lateral muffler is the only problem. It hangs like 1/100th of an inch above the swaybar, so when i hit bumps I get a pretty good clang. About to strap in a new exhaust anyway, but the '80 has a different setup for the spare tire - it sits on the wall instead of in the floor. So there is an extra hump below in the floor so it can fit. I'm checking this weekend to see if I can mount a stock tailpipe from a later year, or if this hump will get in the way.
If anyone has seen or corrected this swaybar issue, give me a shout.
