ignition switch turns car on at start position

I just finished replaced the ignition gearset and switch on my 1992 5spd. When I installed the switch into the housing it looked upside down but I swear I could only get it to feel like it was working correctly in this position. I wired it according to this picture:

and now the car only turns on when the key is in the start position. I tried to wire the switch as close to the picture that I took before I pulled all the wires off the old switch but then it would start but not turn "on" (turned off as soon as the key returned from "start" to "on" position. Is it possible to get the switch in upside down and still feel like it is turning to all the positions correctly? Any other thoughs? Is this diagram I used valid? - Thanks for every one's help here
