Ric,
all those electrical gremlins are quite easy to trace and catch, really. You just need a good diagram and a voltmeter. A bit of patience is quite recommended, but not 100% mandatory.
But it gets more interesting when aftermarket gizmos chime in. Lemme tell you a story...
Well, in short it goes this way: I've been enjoying Valkyrie till one day it started flashing its directionals on its own. But since it continued following my commands when I was telling it to flash right or left or both, then it wasn't quite a mayday, but pretty annoying nevertheless.
I checked the flasher stick. Nothing. I dismantled the flasher stick and assembled it back on and found still nothing. Dismantled hazard button - the result remained being the same. It started driving me nuts since I wasn't able to trace it and I was feeling like a complete idiot when jostling in the city traffic.
I thrice checked all the ground points and replaced those old star washers with new ones and added them where Saab didn't put them in. I noticed three new grey hairs on my head. It was still nothing.
But one day I noticed (what a surprise!) that I had got a towing jack. Well, not me personally, but Valkyrie had it. And there was - tada! - an electric socket on the jack to power the trailer's lights. But since it wasn't original and it was installed by PO - and everything done by PO wasn't... quite good - I decided to finally inspect it and found, that some wires had gone corroded and fell off and were shortening each other when I was cornering left or speeding up (and till them I was surprised - why it blinks left when I boost it up and right when I do the left turn?!).
Moral of the story: update the diagrams after every mod and/or when you install any additional equipment onto the car.
Ric, I feel you're quite close to get it finally nailed down. Good luck,
Zig
