Catalytic converter exhaust on non-cat car Posted by Pyrrhic [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I have a 1987 900 8 valve, non turbo, without a catalytic converter. the car was originally sold in Belgium and no cat was required. I live in Germany where I can't just drive onto a Midas like in the states and have someone weld up a new exhaust. Since the car is 25 years old and not "historic" (miust be 30 years dol for that), I need an exhaust that is TUV certified. Non cat full exhaust is hard to find, but I have a chance to get a Simons 2.5" mild steel cat back exhaust from Skandix for $240.
How much adapting would I have to do to fit this exhaust on my C900?
I don't think it would be too much, but I think the catalytic converter has a three bolt flange, which the non cat has a four bolt flange, am I correct? There is also the fact that I will be stepping up from a thinner exhaust pipe near the firewall to a larger 2.5" pipe. How would that affect my car? Rougher running, backfiring (less pressure), perhaps? Should I have my CIS retuned?
All help and insight is appreciated.
