Thanks all for the suggestions but in the end I went with the Permatex silicone sealant/adhesive-- it was on hand and I REALLY hate to drive without a right RV mirror so I thought I'd give it a go. I drizelled a few beads across the back of the mirrored glass, spread it out thin and even with a paper towel and then pressed it to the face of the RV mirror mount. I kinda wish I'd thought to clamp it in place to promote best contact but instead I just pushed firmly all round the mirror with a matchbook beneath to make sure it didn't try to slide down while wet.
I let it cure overnight in a heated (~65 degr F) garage and tested stability this morning before heading off to work-- seems prett firmly attached to me and it made the drive rock steady all the way there and back. I'll keep an eye on it, though; I'd hate to try to source a replacement if it fell out and broke. I'm a wee bit concerned that the heat transfer properties of the silicone adhesive may limit defrost capacity of the unit. Winter has not yet settled in here in Madison, WI but I guess I'll know soon enough.
Thanks again,
Scott
