It is a very quick way to determine base idle on these engines and it is absolutely crucial that base idle and TPS is adjusted properly and that the throttle plate is clean.
Take a needle nose pliers and pinch off the hose from AIC to intake manifold. The idle should be around 500-600 rpm (barely running) at the most.
If it is higher than that, you need to adjust idle screw and then set the TPS so it clicks when going into idle. If you can't close the throttle plate enough to bring idle down, you have a vacuum leak somewhere and need to fix that.
If engine dies, you might want to raise idle somewhat but not too much. Too high base idle mess with the AIC system and make weird things.
