All four plugs, simultaneously going bad?

Don't waste your money if plugs are fairly new, chance of ALL FOUR simultaneously going bad, in synch, is about a billion to one.
Why did you mention the shielded wire? A break in the shielding wouldn't likely stop the car from running, but a break in the inner wire, or short to ground, quite likely could be your problem. If it's a shaky splice and if you've been handling it recently, look at re-doing it and then try the car.
