Well with my 16V head at the shop for a cleanup cut (.010") and new seals, I was cleaning the block deck to prep. for the new HG. Wet sanded with 400 & 800 grit on steel flatstock, deck cleaned up fine.
Perceived due diligence, ran a M12 tap thru my headbolt threads in the block. I've got one that cleaned up rough...probably my fault for not adequately lubing the tap. At any rate, the threads look a bit rough at the crest of the threads. I'm concerned about this one hole....wondering if it will hold for the last 90* turn on the head bolt. I'll know Saturday, as I should be torquing the head & gasket then.
Anyone repaired these threads? I don't know if anyone has gone oversize on the threads to repair? I doubt it would cleanup with 1/2-13...that leaves either M14 or using 9/16-12 which requires a tap drill of 0.484". From looking down in the coolant passages, it looks like the boss is cast pretty thick.
Hope I don't have to attempt this, but gotta save my 130K engine block. Any thoughts/ previous experience?
