Working on getting my vert project road ready and I need to get the car ready to pass a safety inspection. It was left out in the elements for almost 6yrs and so far I replaced the fuel pump to get it started, replaced all fluids, removed all the rust and acorns I could find and patched all the holes. I am now replacing the exhaust and I planned to replace from the cat back. The first 2 bolts sheered right off, no surprise, but is seems the intermediate pipe and the cat flange are fused together with rust. My question is do I leave this alone for now and just replace the muffler and tailpipe or is there a way to get the intermediate pipe off without damaging the cat?
Also, when this system was installed the bolts holding the intermediate pipe and the cat together were installed in opposing direction, meaning the top 2 bolts were put in rear to front and the lower two were installed front to rear, is there any reason why someone would do this? It just seems to make the top 2 impossible to get at.
Thanks
