2.2, 2.4 & 2.4.x are all incompatible... You can't swap one for another. Most of the time, the ECU connectors won't even align or mate, but many ancillaries are completely different like the throttle position sensor (which is switches in 2.4, but is a potentiometer in 2.4.x), and the IAC valve.
The only way you could do it is to remove the entire LH wiring harness (it disconnects near the ECU) and swap the later harness and all parts over.
I did that when I installed DI/APC on a 1986 CV. DI needs certain signals from the LH that are only present with 2.4. Out came the 2.2 harness, and in went the 2.4 harness, injectors, IAC, MAF, TPS, etc...
