I just ordered one of these things:

A fitting that goes in place of the drain plug designed to make oil changes easier. Similar to the fittings that Dorman and Fumoto sell, but apparently more compact. My hope is that with the JB Weld sealing the transmission case, and this fitting sealed (Permatex thread sealant) in, that there will be no opportunity for leaks. By installing a permanent fitting perhaps there won't be further stress on the threads/boss and the crack won't be prone to getting worse.

Time will tell!
