Simple Green does a good job & is not an environmental hazard. Garden hose pressure is adequate to remove most grime. An old toothbrush or something similar to get into the nooks & crannies. Do cover the distributor with a plastic bag or something to avoid start-up difficulties afterward. A squirt of WD-40 will chase out the moisture in the cap if there is an issue. The high pressure wash has a tendency to blow debris onto the outside of the car. Yank the battery out & proceed with clean up at the house. If issues with battery acid underneath or on the tray, baking soda & water solution will neutralise it.
