Clutch and Brake Pedal Removal Problems

I am now 5+ hours into removing the clutch and brake pedal assembly and am having issues removing the darn thing. My question is: Is it supposed to be this hard??? The steering column and brake master cylinder spring seem to make this thing impossible to pull out.
Whats the trick? I removed the clutch pedal, to make it easier, but still not easy enough. I am removing it to put on a auto to manual project car.
Any tips are appreciated
