I'm not sure, but there's a list of dash gauges and lights that go out when you're cranking a car, then return when the keyswitch pops back to run.
If your key cylinder may be a little crudded up, or entire linkage under there in need of service, or maybe burnt contacts in the ignition-starter switch, then the starter can stick on, and maybe escape notice. If it persists as a condition it will take out the starter. Or maybe there's a way for SOME of the "Start" key position contacts to stay in contact, without the one that activates the starter solenoid.
Anyways, it's something to consider. Check dash gauges and lights with key in Run position before you start the car. Then turn to Start and see what goes off. And, hopefully, comes back on when you release the key as motor roars to life.
