Hi! I got the car @ 166,000 miles. I had the tranny rebuilt very soon after I bought the car so I'm guessing it was at 170,000. The car now has about 237,000 miles on it. Symptoms were:
it seemed that the clutch was "grabbing" a bit too soon as I eased up on the pedal. I pulled over for a few minutes and noticed the following: idling, in neutral, you could hear a kind of rattling noise coming from that cover that houses the slave cylinder - kind of like washers in a can kind of noise. also, in reverse, the car would kind of hesitate and judder when rolling back. It also continued to want to kind of lurch forward in the forward direction when I released the pedal. THEN, the shifter got completely STUCK. Then i got it somewhat loose again and I could shift it in all gears, then it got really STUCK again - finally I managed to loosen in again and at that point just left it in neutral.
I haven't had a proper discussion with my mechanic yet - his assistant left a msg and mentioned that they pulled off that cover in the front of the engine - and I believe that whatever they saw led them to make the call on the cluster bearing. That's all I know up to this point!!
