Directional indicator/turn signal trouble

Bentleys has left me hanging.
I have a 89 SPG. After a big rain the turn signals have stopped working. Instead when the blinker is applied the brake fluid light and hand brake light on the dash come on and the #7 fuse blows on the panel.
I have replaced the blinker relay behind the dash with a good spare. Same trouble.
Bentley check says check voltage on terminal 1 (key in run)on the stalk. Did that a good 12v there.
Then check voltage at the 49 terminal (key in run)in the blinker relay. Only have 7v there.
Then check ground at blinker relay 31. I have good ground.
That ends the Bentley help... Not so helpful.
So apparently I have a short. I got that much, but I've no idea where to go from here. I could replace the stalk, but I don't think that's the issue as the only thing out of the ordinary is the 7 v on the blinker relay terminal 49 instead of 12v.
Help! I'm seriously losing the will for the saabing life.
