With the tach going down to zero and back up, I'd suspect that the connector on the distributor is deteriorated and is loose on the distributor. Use Zip ties to secure it to the distributor. When the signal from the distributor is lost, the tach will drop to zero. When the signal is re-established and the engine is still turning, the tach pops back into operation. I've experienced the same thing on my '89 SPG when the distributor connector was loose.

Dying when you slow down is a good indication that the Turbo Bypass Valve is either disconnected or needs to be replaced. When you slow down, increased vacuum in the intake manifold opens the valve and allows the high pressure air to recirculate back ahead of the turbo. If it doesn't a shock wave is reflected back from the throttle and stalls the burbo, stalling the car.
Here's a test: Find the vacuum hose that runs from the intake manifold down to a part below the distributor. Disconnect the hose from the vacuum nipple, clean it up, and suck on it. If it doesn't hold the vacuum, either the vacuum hose is split or the Turbo Bypass Valve is bad. Replace as necessary.

As always, make sure that you have NGK spark plugs, Bougicord spark plug wires, and Bosch cap and rotor and that they're all good.
