Great idea Dan. The reason I siliconed the wires to the side of the housing was just to get them out of the way of the internal spinning bits, NOT to insulate them. Grounding out is a very likely culprit -- though I still suspect the fuel pump as the bad missing went away with a full tank of fuel. I suppose I could pull them out of the silicone and build up a thicker layer of silicone before a thin layer of silicone is applied to hold them down. Or get a can of, I think it's called, Plasticote.
