Whatcha actually found was the rear main seal. The front of the engine is in the back and the back is in the front.
Just be sure that it's engine oil and not transmission oil that you re finding.
As long as you don't have juddering from the clutch or find, when you get it apart, that the clutch disc friction material is so worn rivets are starting to get worn, I don't think that it's necessary to replace the clutch when you're doing the seal .... unless you really want to.
I would recommend that you replace the primary shaft seal, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and if you have enough cash, slave cylinder when you get into it that far. You'll save future grief by replacing them.
I've had poor luck removing the primary shaft seal by prying. A heat wrench (propane torch) will melt it enough to be popped out with a big screwdriver.
Here are links to good tutorials and a pic of Landjet's rear main seal tool. I made one and it works pretty well.
I usually replace the slave cylinder Allen screws with stainless steel bolts with 10 mm heads. I find it to be a lot easier and faster to use a ratcheting box wrench than mess with an Allen wrench.
