Further to my postings of 7th Dec, and to CMyles's suggestions...
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=444583
...I waded into the job, but since I could still do a reverse bleed of the clutch hydraulics OK, and get pressure and what looked like full piston movement for a day until the fluid leaked out of the bad slave, I tried fabricating spacers out of copper and plastic tubing of various diameters, insulated and uninsulated wire. Couldn't get any of them to seat in and stay in place. So I tried using individual L-shaped clips, made of 3.8 mm steel, inserting them sequentially between the PP fingers and the clutch disk. Seemed to have worked, but unsure sure if they are of sufficient thickness. See these pix (8 pps PDF file)....

and this earlier Youtube video...

So before I went any further towards unbolting the PP, having just very easily extracted the clutch shaft as far out as the radiator, I tried reinserting it. Would not go all the way back in, even when gently tapped with a hammer. See this newest Youtube video...

See also that the inner end is flopped up with what looks like rust-contaminated oil. No sign of damage to splines, etc. I'm begin to fear that I'm way in over my head, and wonder where to go from here? Haven't tried backing off the PP bolts yet.
