Not that I've ever heard, and I've had a C900 in my stable for over 30 years, most of that time as a daily driver.
Quite the opposite in fact, my own experience and that of many others I've read about is that when maintained these engines will routinely go 300K-400K miles or more with with no block or bottom end problems. (Though you might need to deal with a head gasket or valve problem in that time.)
Anecdotally, my '86 C900 now has about 300,000 miles and still runs great, my '97 9000 (basically the same engine with some updates) has 330,000 with the same story.
Of course anything is possible, though normally I would not expect a cracked block unless it was permitted to freeze up in the wintertime. I guess the signs would depend on where the crack is located.
