Rough Idle when I apply gas

Hello, I have a 89 900s that is having a hard time running. I start it up, and it runs fine. Then I take it for a drive and the car slowly chokes to a stall with a glowing cat. I was just running it in the garage and put the idle at 3,000 or so and it sat there for about 30 seconds before the idle dropped and it lost power. It almost stalls so I have to feather the gas to get it back to even. The check engine light comes on at that point and doesn't any other time. I've changed the timing chain in this thing as well as swapped the AMM and AIC. The chain is as close as I can get it to dead center. I noticed that when I go to time this beast, the light rarely does shine on the 15 degree mark. Perhaps 15% of the time it does. It shows a blank part of the flywheel instead. I've taken good guesses, when the light does show the mark, and it still runs like crap. What do you think?
