Even simpler than that is getting a piece of fuel injection hose that is about two - three inches long. Make a nice cut on the hard plastic fuel line, lube up the ID/OD of the hose/plastic line and push it one with about one inch penetration on the plastic line. There are hose ID sizes that fit snuggly. Slide on two fuel line sized hose clamps with the hex on opposite sides, so you are tightening and holding then to prevent twist/tweak the plastic line.
Slip two more clamps on the hose, feed it on the barb, slide them down to double clamp the barb, and tighten them in opposing directions as well.
I've had a repair like this work on two different cars for several years with no problems.
Cmyles has the right idea but there isn't any room to work on the line insitu -- if you're building a line separately, then I would use that type wood block clamp.
