PDPappy gave you the gist of it. A bit more detail on the process is available on the Townsend site (see link below). Some posts here advocate taking all three bolts off and just lifting the entire assembly off, but its marginally easier to do as he suggests, IMHO.
Other posters have suggested reversing the bolt when you re-install. They maintain that this enables them to "simply" unbolt the oil filter mount from the block and slide the bolt out. I tried this and did not find it a very satisfying solution either. YMMV.
