Ok, I ran some sea foam through it but probably only went through a gallon or so of gas on my test drive. After 25 minutes of smooth driving, the hesitation came back in full effect. It seems to be worst when I start from stop and when I shift into a higher gear so right around 1000 to 1400 RPM's.
I limped back to the garage shut off the lights and didn't see any blue arcs from the spark plug wires so I think I'm ruling a possible grounding issue out but when the puttering was really bad, I did smell a pretty strong fuel smell but could find no evidence of a fuel leak near the rail or injectors.
One new thing I did notice is that my volt meter I installed where the EQ used to be reads below 12 volts when this problem occurs. When the car is running smooth, it's up around 13 volts. What could cause that? That has to be related to this performance issue. I have a new remanufactured Bosch alternator installed and I've kept all accessories and headlights off while doing my test drives.
