Heater Core - Analysis Posted by Matt Grimes [Email] (#2198) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Matt Grimes) on Fri, 14 Jul 2017 06:56:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So…during my pre-purchase vehicle inspection I noted that the heater core pipes had been bypassed in the engine compartment. This was an immediate red flag that I might be looking at some serious work before winter sets in. When asked, the PO said it had always been that way and it was to help keep heat out of the interior. I figured that was probably BS and that it had gotten leaky at some point and someone did the easy solution (if you only drive it in the summer). Had the rest of the car not been exceptional I may have walked on it but I decided even if I had to rip the dash out at some point the car was still the best I had come across and I went with it.
I need to replace the coolant anyway so I am thinking about hooking it back up and getting the radiator pressure tester from the local AutoZone. They have free loaners. I didn’t notice a heater control valve and am wondering if that might have gotten tossed when they bypassed the core.
Anything I should be aware of as I investigate this?
