I connected an inductive RPM meter. After cleaning the throttle body and AIC the idle was at over 1000 rpm. I disconnected the TPS connector and shorted connection 2 and 3 from the back. Adjusted the throttle stop screw so the idle was at 850-900.
Then I connected a dwell meter to the AIC as Bentley instructs. Made some very fine adjustments to the throttle stop again to get it to 30 degrees dwell.
I then adjusted the TPS as per Bentley to ensure idle map from jetronics ecu at closed throttle.
Reconnected everything and now while testing the O2 it's working, (or at least signaling a controlled idle from rich to lean), under all conditions.
It seems as though the idle has to be in a certain range for the ecu to read from all sensors correctly. The car has a slight idle hunt when warm but I know the exhaust is leaking so I'll check again once the new exhaust goes on.
Thanks for the input guys. It helped put me on the right path.
