I would probably keep looking for the source of the issue - the sensors do what they do regardless of what the engine is doing, so if adjusting the idle system changed their behavior, something else could be off. If the TPS was off, and the ECM didn't know the throttle was closed as a result you could get some odd mixture behavior as a result, so your explanation could be there. However, a hunting idle is usually indicative of a vacuum leak or bad AMM - it's not going to be caused by an exhaust leak unless that leak happens to be between the engine and the O2 sensor, or within a few inches of it anyway.
