I didn't say it clearly enough, but what I meant was, once the wipers are in the park position, detach the rotating arm that connects the motor to the linkage assembly, rotate the arm so that the linkage and wipers are in the correct position just above the cowl and then reattach the arm to the motor.
I believe the park mechanism is internal to the motor and has slipped. If that is the case, this should work. If it is actuated by the wiper mechanism, this won't change anything. I thought it would be worth a try before removing the whole mechanism.
