Wipers Parking Problem Fixed 1 Saabers Like This Post! Posted by Sepposam [Email] (#2131) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Sepposam) on Tue, 27 Nov 2018 20:13:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I also posted this info in the original thread but it got buried near the beginning, so I'm also posting here as a standalone.
The problem was that the wipers were parking in the middle of the glass. Here's what I found out and how I fixed it.
1.I fixed the problem with a new used motor from Steven Mitchem. He sent me the entire wiper mechanism. Looking at it, it was clear that the parking function is in the motor, so I only replaced that, which was much easier than replacing the whole mechanism would be:
2. Parking is controlled by a gear that is driven by the other end of the pinion that drives the wipers. It has a plastic splined shaft and the wheel that control the parking function mounts on it. It is grooved and the fingers that control the current to the motor are inserted into it;
3. My motor was parking incorrectly because the wheel had cracked and rotated around from the correct position. I'm gluing it now and will see if it will work after the repair. I'll plug it in and see where it parks just running it without the linkage;
4. If you have a motor that's doing the same thing mine was, you may be able to repair the gear and correct the parking. If you have a dead motor, you can steal the gear from it;
5. If you have a dead motor, save it or the just the linkage and the gear for use in future repairs.
I hope this helps other 900 owners who run into the same problem. Thank to Tom for the suggestion to look inside the case.
