Being that i've had to get myself all over this problem, I do know more than I should about these pumps.
Since you have a turbo, and it's obviously CIS, you'll need to stay with the Bosch high pressure type. The 84 has a very large OD of insert, more than any of the pumps used in any Saab.
Interestingly enough, it's the same insert used in a 99 CIS as I recall.
It may be easy to just swap in another pump, but the likelyhood of you getting one that has the large OD like the 84, is pretty slim.
I spec'd this out to replace the pump in the land speed car, we used the Bosch pump that turns out to be the same part number as a Porsche 930 turbo. That is also the same as the Saab 99 for the insert. It will fit the 1984 with the big OD, I think the last insert I bought wsa 70 bucks new on ebay out of Florida. Bosch built in Romania as I recall.
If you email me, I think I saved the part numbers on a .pdf
Please don't ditch that big insert plastic pump portion if you swap it out with something different -- we'd like to build a spare for the racecar if you don't need the big diameter one.
