Yep, Funny thing isn't it? Saab (apparently) would occasionally source a small odd part from the USA or other non-metric leaning place. That taper pin was used by Saab for the shift linkage in their cars up through the C900's but the early version had threads on both ends so you could use the nut to extract the pin as well as retain it. I've never checked it but I imagine that the taper on the pin and bore is probably a standard 1/4" per foot taper too. As for the nut, there's less than 0.003" difference between 5/16" and 8 mm.
The three carriage bolts that secure the shift lever box to the chassis are 1/4-20 thread. Not sure anyone even makes metric carriage bolts?
