Saab made a special too for their dealers that was a small press for getting the pin out. The taper pin was a holdover from the 2 stroke and V4 car's shift linkage where it worked pretty well. Many times I've worked on cars that had a screw and nut in place of the pin. As long as the rod and coupling are fixed together so there's no play anything will do the job. It wasn't the best feature of the car.
