UPON further review, I'm going to butt join the broken pieces Posted by DET17 [Email] (#1254) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DET17) on Wed, 2 Jun 2021 03:54:45 In Reply to: Re: considering to TIG the broken aluminum base together....., PaulS [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 31 May 2021 07:24:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Paul, I'm going to proceed as such. My long pieces start on the curvature of the #4 bow and proceed toward the centers. I've discovered that the pair of closely spaced holes are designed to straddle the main seams on each side of the top. When I locate screws symmetrically spaced around these main seams, then the pair of small broken pieces of aluminum are actually too long to fit! I'm going to trim the broken ends off (the C'sink holes) just enough to relieve the length so it all fits together. Once I have a full fit check completed, I will install the weatherstrip adhesive under this base strip and install for good.
Since I will need more screws due to the broken bits, I searched for the OE screws:
Metric "self tapping oval head" M2.9 x 16mm long. Found a vendor with the proper DIN spec and ordered a full set. These are not stainless but rather are black plated steel.
16 x MTS2.9X16- Oval Head Trim Screw Black (MTS2.9X16) = $2.08
The stateside vendor is BELMETRIC. When I get this installed I'll take some pics and get the final solution into this thread.
Duane
