I just did this myself from raw beginner status so here is what I had to learn:
The screws in the speaker grill are T-10. Best to use a small screwdriver that has interchangeable bits - the whole package fits in a small plastic envelope. Autoparts stores have them. I think mine is from Sears.
When you get them loose, pull the grill up and towards you to unhook the back tabs (toward the windshield). There is a spring clip on the right side you then need to navigate around and out. The bulb holders are the round white plastic "knobs" with a silver sticker that says "PAT." (on mine, anyway - also an 87). Rotate COUNTERCLOCKWISE as you are looking directly at the silver sticker. They are very hard to rotate and they only turn one way.
With mine the bulb was burned out. Often the connection the bulb holder makes it bad and you can twist it to a different position and it will work. Do not use 5W bulbs or the heat will cause damage to the connections. Use 3W bulbs only (careful - they look the same).
Good luck - it is a pain in the butt.
