You state there is a big difference in vibration when the car is in drive or reverse, versus neutral. Which has more vibration? I assume the car is an automatic, but that's not clear (I know you say drive, but...)
Is the vibration when not moving, but the car is in gear (or in neutral?). Does the vibration change any when you're moving? Does it vary with engine speed or road speed?
The upper engine mount (torsion arm, aka 'dog bone') has two rubber bushings. There are two lower engine mounts, both on the right side of the car, one forward, one aft. There is also a mount under the transmission. The transmission mount rarely fails, but it does on occasion. The lower engine mounts are prone to failure, and if they go, they tend to take out the bushings in the upper mounts. I usually replace both lower mounts, because if one is dead, it's been stressing the other.
Is the vibration the same as before the mounts were changed? Is it worse now? Did the mechanic put in solid or urethane mounts? The stock lower mounts are hydraulic. The stock upper bushings are rubber. Some folks put in solid lower mounts - they're cheaper and control engine movement better. the same with using urethane upper mounts. HOWEVER - solid lower mounts and urethane upper mounts transmit A LOT more vibration - on some cars it's not a problem, but it can be a big problem on others.
