Brake and other fluids seemed to make the plastic brittle with time. Found a much higher quality hand pump at Sears, It was all metal and I've had it for 10 years now, only got about 2 years from the plastic Miti-vac. I made my own bleeding adapter from a quart mason jar (real popular here in Georgia) and two peices of copper tubing. (also popular in Georgia) Drill 2 holes in the mason jar lid and solder the copper tubes in the holes. Holds a lot more fluid than the tiny container that comes with the miti-vac kit. Make one of the tubes long enough to go almost all the way to the bottom of the jar, that lets you watch for bubbles in the fluid it sucks in.
