To echo Peter, that sounds like a battery problem. As batteries age, they just don't hold a charge as well.

You write that you put in a new alternator - I assume that's because the old one wasnt' doing its job. The usual symptom of a bad alternator is having the battery go flat (uncharged) and needing a jump. Car batteries aren't designed to fully discharge, and each time that happens, it steals some life from it. So I suspect that your earlier alternator problems may have sapped the life out of your battery. If the battery is old, so much the worse. A weak battery will crank slowly, just like you're seeing. And since a weak battery discharges fast (kinda the definition of 'weak'), it spends more time in that self-destructive discharged state.

However, there are a few things to check. When you're driving the car, what's the voltage reading on the EDU? With a new alternator, I'd assume it to be in the mid 13 to mid 14 volt range. That's normal. If it's running below 13.0, your new alternator isn't doing its job. I can believe 12.8 idling at a stoplight with the healights and blower motor on, but while cruising down the highway, it should be at least 13.5 At the other end, make sure the voltage isn't TOO high - you don't want to be seeing voltages of 14.7 or 15. That would be the sign of a bad voltage regulator (part of the alternator in a 9000). Too high a voltage will literally boil the water out of the battery, something that doesn't lend itself to long, healthy battery life. Just because it's new doesn't mean the alternator can't have problems.

Also, check the water level in the cells of the battery. Each one should have enough water to completely cover the plates. If not, add some distilled water to the low cell(s).
