torque conv or trans pump? no engagement at all...

My 1995 Aero is acting up yet again-- I recently replaced the radiator and hoses after the trans fluid and anitfreeze combined. Saab did the service, carefully flushed the tranny 3 times, replaced all hoses, and did 125K service. Flushed the tranny again after 700miles.
Today the car loses engagement completely, every gear produces no acceleration. Stopped the car, let it sit, and was able to get it to move another 100feet, then would lose engagement. Got it towed, Saab mech. noticed the trans fluid was way too high when cold. Replaced fluid to min level, took a drive. Same thing happened-- heard a whining noise too, which the mech. thinks is the trans pump.
Pushed the car back, it's there now to be looked at monday. Any ideas on:
- torque converter or transmission fluid pump?
- could it have been caused by faulty installation of radiator and hoses?
- what could it cost? i've already dumped $4K into the car this year (head gasket, exhaust).
- a side note, there's also a huge crack in the cat. converter. i don't think it could be related.
thanks for any advice.
