There's an advantage, but it kinda depends on what you like.

I just bought a '97 Aero (the most potent of the 2.3 variants) to replace my '86 9000T.

The 2.3 motor has a boatload of torque, and is very very smooth. On the other hand, the balance shafts that make it so smooth can be a major maintenance issue. And to me, the 2.3 doesn't have quite the "fun factor" of the 2.0 - the power really falls off toward the redline. My 2.0, only modified with a slight APC tweak and a distributor mod, pulled hard to 6000 RPM and would easily pin the speedometer.

I'm sure the 2.3 could be made to feel the same way with a chip, new exhaust, and some other mods, but I don't have the $xxxx to spend on such things. Plus you have the DI cassette, head gaskets, and some other pesky reliability issues (my 2.0 is in great shape at 260K miles, only internal work that's been done is the timing chain).

Bottom line: I like my Aero, but if I had spent a lot of time and $$$$ upgrading my 2.0 to a 2.3, I'd probably be somewhat bummed...
