I also thought of inner drivers. I had a similar problem with my 91 turbo which I suspected was inner drivers. I have had mine checked (myself and someone who actually knows what he's doing) and they are fine. This symptom has come and gone on my car and I suspect it is related to the additional pressure placed on the engine by engaging the transmission and not moving. I think new plugs made it better, but honestly I have been so fixated on so many other quirks that I can't remember.
Has anyone checked the rear bushings on the front control arms? When these go it causes some funky things to happen.
I was thinking this morning that one way to try to isolate the problem would be to remove the drive axles and see what happens when you shift into "D" without the axles. It seems to me that this would be different than neutral only in the sense that shifting gears would engage the transmission. If the problem persists, then you know it could be a transmission problem. If the problem goes away, then it may not be transmission related.
I would advise against continuing to replace parts. Your money would be better spent having a real expert examine the car. I don't know how many real experts there are at Saab dealers. It seems like the good mechanics all open their own shops.
